Inflated User Claims, Glaring Bugs, and Hidden Security Risks (Refunded)

Stay away from Syncupp. It only took me a few hours to realize that this is a half-baked, buggy tool propped up by inflated user metrics, fabricated social proof, and defensive PR (as seen in the founder's reply to this review).

Syncupp is nowhere near ready for prime time:
During testing, the platform was crippled by an underdeveloped UI and glaring functional bugs. You cannot reasonably implement this with a client or team without causing immense frustration. The built-in AI was severely restricted at the time of testing, as it only responded to a tiny fraction of prompts. If you plan to rely on it across multiple users daily, your credits will vanish almost instantly, as they are not sufficient unless you plan to use your own key. Worse still, basic file handling was heavily restricted on the types of files you could attach, and the system literally wouldn't let you delete any attached files. This points to a total lack of basic QA and incompetent product design, making implementation a massive operational risk.

Genuine transparency is non-existent:
When asked publicly on AppSumo how many organizations actually use the platform, they dodged the question and forced the conversation to private email. When pressed on their flashy landing page claim of "3,200+ companies worldwide," their excuse attempted to conflate bloated lifetime trial signups or inactive free accounts with real adoption, which supposedly stands at a meager 150+ actual organizations and 2,500 pre-AppSumo users (even these numbers seem inflated). If they genuinely powered thousands of active corporate clients, basic bugs like lack of file deletion, restricted file types, and incorrect AI credit tiers would have been caught long ago.

Fabricated Social Proof:
Their trust banner relies entirely on a collection of boutique companies, niche indie projects, and micro-agencies to project enterprise scale. Compounding this, their testimonials are populated by an insular loop of close startup associates and family, including the founder's own brother as a client, who is listed as a co-founder and COO for the same company they both work for (you can't make this stuff up)! This naturally raises serious questions about the legitimacy of their customer base.

Fragile Infrastructure:
Beneath the surface-level marketing, the platform's security and server architecture reveal severe vulnerabilities, including opaque data residency routed through India, brittle third-party webhook dependencies that risk breaking core automations, and questionable load stability when handling real-time concurrent workloads. When paired with a privacy policy featuring sweeping liability disclaimers that shift all infrastructure and data recovery risk entirely onto the user, these architectural red flags show a product held together by duct tape rather than enterprise-grade engineering.

Based on this, the security and long-term viability of this platform are deeply questionable. To top it all off, the platform’s heavy push into gamification introduces distorted extrinsic incentives, forcing team members to waste time chasing arbitrary leaderboard scores and point treadmills instead of delivering actual value that focuses on meaningful project quality and not simply the quantity of completed deliverables.

UPDATE:
The founder claiming these bug fixes were "already in the queue" is a transparent lie designed to cover up their exposed metrics. They only scrambled to patch things immediately after being publicly called out, as they personally thanked me for bringing these to their attention, not because they were already made aware of those issues by others, as they later claimed. At the time of testing, there was not even a public roadmap or feature request page. For a tool marketing itself as a project management solution, their own internal operations are entirely chaotic.

Also, in response to the founder's poor excuses, conflating lifetime signups of abandoned trial accounts with actual active corporate adoption is not a dual-metric reality; it's deliberately misleading marketing. Claiming to be "trusted by 3,200+ companies worldwide" is a masterclass in deception when over 3,000 of those companies clearly stopped trusting this tool and walked away, leaving a mere 150 active organizations (if that number can even be trusted). Your public sales page should not require the customer to privately message you just to learn that your active user base is a tiny fraction of your headline number. Admitting that your site copy should have been explicit and rushing to rewrite it now that you are caught is not a defense; it is panic mode. Blaming the customer for believing your inflated numbers does not save a product held together by duct tape and defensive PR. The mask slipped, the site is getting quietly scrubbed as damage control, and no amount of spin changes the fact that this product and its founder do not deserve our trust.

I’ll separate what’s true from what isn’t.

True. You were given 150 credits instead of the 1,000 Tier 2 entitles you to. Our bug, fixed within 30 minutes of you raising it. File deletion and wider attachment support are already shipped. Three legitimate hits.

Not true, and stated with a confidence the facts don’t support:

The numbers. 3,200+ is total companies signed up since launch. 150...

Looks solid

I don't usually post reviews, but this product & founders does look really promising. I have been using Asana earlier, but this seems like one of those products which I can switch to from Asana.

Thank you so much! This truly made our day. 🙌

Switching from Asana is exactly what we built Syncupp for: simpler task management, plus gamification that keeps your team engaged. If you’d like a hand moving your projects over, just reach out and we’ll walk you through it.

Glad to have you with us! 🔥

Project management with gamification and WhatsApp built in

Disclaimer: I'm a paid product evaluator for AppSumo and received this tool for free to provide a detailed review. My opinions are entirely my own, and my compensation is not tied to the rating or taco score I give.

Most project management tools are good at telling people what they need to do. Syncupp tries to give them another reason to actually do it.

The gamification is a big part of that. Completing work can earn coins and XP, build streaks and move people up a leaderboard. Those coins can then be tied to rewards you define yourself, so the reward system becomes part of the everyday work instead of something a manager has to run separately.

I tested creating and completing tasks and awarding coins, and that worked well. I can especially see this working for agencies, sales groups or other environments where a little friendly competition can make routine work more engaging.

Syncupp also brings a lot of the day-to-day work into the same place. There are project boards, tasks, chat, meetings, time tracking, attendance, roles and permissions, along with the leaderboard and rewards. You can work in kanban, list or calendar views and break tasks down with subtasks, dependencies and recurring schedules.

The other big advantage for me is the native WhatsApp integration. Task assignments, deadline reminders and daily summaries can go directly to WhatsApp, and some approvals can be handled just by replying without opening Syncupp. For groups that already rely heavily on WhatsApp, that could make the product much easier to adopt because people can see what needs attention where they are already communicating.

I also like that WhatsApp and the gamification are included across the AppSumo tiers rather than being reserved for the higher plans. The tiers mainly change how many people and workspaces you can have, along with the amount of AI usage included.

During my test, the leaderboard did not update immediately after coins were awarded. The team reproduced the issue and said they were adding real-time updates. The current AppSumo listing now describes it as a live XP leaderboard with real-time rankings, so that appears to have been resolved.

I also found a visitor-tracking script running inside the logged-in application during the original test. The team removed it completely after I reported it, which I appreciated.

There are also integrations with Slack, Zapier, Make and Pabbly, plus Claude MCP if you want to bring Syncupp into an AI workflow.

Overall, I think the reason to choose Syncupp over another task manager is the combination of gamification and WhatsApp. The project management side is familiar, but coins, streaks, rewards and native WhatsApp updates give people more reason to stay engaged with the work and less reason to miss what needs to get done.

Thank you for such a thorough, honest review! 🙌

We really appreciate you flagging the leaderboard delay and the tracking script. Both are fully resolved now: the leaderboard updates in real time, and the script is gone for good. Feedback like yours makes Syncupp better for everyone.

You nailed what we’re building: work your team actually wants to finish, right where they already chat. 🔥

Taco Mondayy - Syncupp Edition

Keeping this short and sweet. First rating on AppSumo, and that in itself says a lot.
My experience in the last hour or so with this app has been as follows:

1- Yet another Kanban app, let's see what's upp!
2- What's with the gamification Shenanigans. Cha-ching! More coins please :)
3- Navigation is a breeze, minimalism at best, like it was designed by a yogi.
4- 2 boards in and I'm hooked. It works on my Android phone too

Count me in as a fan, but you're not off the hook yet if I encounter any hiccups. And don't forget your grassroots when you go big ;)

Wow, your first AppSumo review, and it’s for us? We’re honored! 🙌

“Designed by a yogi” might be the best compliment we’ve ever gotten. More coins are coming your way, and if you hit any hiccups, just ping us and we’ll jump on it.

And don’t worry, we’ll never forget the folks who believed in us early. 🔥
