Yes, but having a custom OpenAI-Compatible API setting would allow users to connect other OpenAI-compatible providers as well. This gives users more flexibility, especially those who don’t use OpenRouter and want to keep using their existing AI gateway.

You can do exactly that, use your OpenAI API key, provide it to OpenRouter and it will be used instead of charging you.

I read it carefully, thanks. At the moment, Writeseed’s BYOK feature is limited to OpenRouter only. So for users who already rely on another OpenAI-compatible gateway, they have no option, since there isn’t currently a custom OpenAI-compatible setting within Writeseed.

FYI, besides OpenRouter, several other AI gateways already provide similar “Bring your own provider API keys” features at no cost

OpenRouter is what we offer which is OpenAI-compatible.
