Q: Just Record Webcam?
Can you just record your webcam? Can you switch from recording your webcam to your screen? Does it record if you use something like Xsplit background removal?

Oct 29, 2026A: Yes, ScreenToVideo supports all of these scenarios!
1. Webcam-only recording
You can record just your webcam or just your screen.
2. Switching between webcam and screen
If you want to switch between your webcam and screen during a video, we recommend using the Record & Edit option and enabling both screen and webcam recording.
ScreenToVideo will capture them as two separate streams in the same recording session. In the editor, you can independently adjust their position, size, and visibility at any point in the video. This allows you to show only your webcam, only your screen, or both together.
3. Background removal and virtual cameras
ScreenToVideo includes its own Virtual Background feature, which supports AI-powered background removal and blurring.
You can see it in action here:

You can also use third-party tools such as XSplit VCam or NVIDIA Broadcast. ScreenToVideo supports virtual webcam devices through DirectShow or Media Foundation, so you can select the virtual camera as your video source and record the feed with the background already removed or replaced.
Hope this helps!

Helpful tip for XSplit VCam or NVIDIA Broadcast virtual backgrounds on Windows: since those apps register as a standard DirectShow virtual webcam device, selecting the virtual camera feed rather than the raw USB webcam lets screen recorders capture clean background replacement natively. Keeping the talking-head webcam track cleanly framed also makes downstream multilingual dubbing and face lip-sync much sharper if you localize tutorials later.
Can you make effects while recording like zooming in or arrows etc instead of doing it when editing the finished recording? I think I'm looking for something where I can switch between full screen view and full webcam view during the recording without having to do it in post.
